Chive Drop Biscuits

Tender, hot from the oven, biscuits with the delicate onion-like flavor of chives. Serve with your next soup supper.


  • 1 tbsp. Chopped Chives
  • 13 c. vegetable shortening
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ¼ tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp. baking powder
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour


  1. Preheat oven to 450°F.
  2. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar in a large mixing bowl. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add chives and stir. Add buttermilk; stir until just moist.
  3. Drop batter by heaping tablespoonfuls onto a baking sheet coated with cooking spray. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
